Have you ever thought of wooden clock (Druk Wooden Clock-འབྲུག་ཤིང་བཟོ་ཆུ་ཚོད།) Do not Duplicate

The Dragon signifies the mythical Druk which means the identity of country Bhutan.  The clock signifies the art of wooden clock. It will tell the uses of wood in clock construction.

Two month ago we the "Druk Wooden Clock" have notified in social media for the need of clock engine. Some even questioned me of its use. My answer at that time wasn't clear because I was not able to show what we are planning to make. Today I hope all those gentle men and women will be happy with my answer. Before answering I would proudly share the rational behind its production.

In the past years the diploma graduates of College of Natural Resources (CNR) were enriched with research module where final year student has to defend their findings with thorough research. However, due to change in "people's time" diploma graduates are not recruited in research centers. Moreover, the descriptive form of research objective did not fulfill the satisfaction of mentors and there isn't any use of researches beside learning. The papers are in dustbins as waste after  putting a yearlong hard-work and commitment. Today, there is a paradigm shift whereby the research module has been replaced by a 12 credited creativity and innovation module. It is a direct work with demands your skills, knowledge and abilities to produce a product  or innovate something of use.

It is where one of the product " wooden clock" has been innovated. The idea was the fruition of student and mentor's interest. It begun with a work in CNR lab when I asked my friends  what if we  replace the normal clock with wood. The idea was fueled by the mentor Mr. Cheten Dorji when he suggested to make wooden clock of different species of natural design. The idea become complete synergy of student's willingness and mentor's support.

The vision of Druk Wooden Clock is to effectively utilize the woods that are left by the people with less uses. For example who cares much of ten 10cm squares of plank. It is left with less uses and in fact burnt in remote areas. Moreover, even after applying scientific management system to  70.46% of Bhutan's tree coverage many woods are left without commercial importance. It is where the Wooden Clock could befit the people to earn income as well utilize the trees. As far as I am concerned I did not see wooden clocks from Bhutan though the country is covered by trees allover.

The creativity and innovation module actually encouraged to make a product which could be a sample for future development. However, Druk Wooden Clock has produced around seven clock to recover all the expenditure and production cost invested in it. The clock of  different design were exhibited and sold at Nu. ranging from 800- 1500 according to tree species. To our surprise, the products were demanded highly by the people. It was the time when the products were booked before the exhibition.

Therefore, I would like to thank all individual who have contributed to the fruition of the product. Thanks to all contributors of clock engine, college administration for budget and friends for the team work. It was a great lesson for us which let uses of our practical skills and be a entrepreneurs in near future.
