Bhutan after entering the world of modernization had observed a reversal in cultural paradigm from general to personal interest. The country had empowered women with utmost commitment and opportunities and still today it's the driving force in it. "Women and men are different but equal". It is by birth that we are different but all are treated equal which has made the country number one in equality. We have same social rights, status and equal opportunities in every activities. Thanks to all organizations and supporters for bringing equity and justice in it. But, the present era is different "Nyig Ma Nga Yi Due" where unexpected unprecedented things are happening in the country. One thing which am totally against it is the playing of Khuru by women.
I wonder and often doubt of my immaturity where I cannot think beyond the boundary of what am suppose to do. But, I as youth of this nation cares country's culture, protect and conserve traditions with the rights that is actually showered to me. Social beliefs are one factor which has protected the country so long. We as Buddhist believe in local deities, gods and other social factors. Had there been so such factors our country would not have been with evergreen beauty. The so called "Nye das","Zhi das" has acted social fencing for protecting country's environment in every looks and corners.
With time Bhutan has grown and its people. The country itself became globalized with computers, internet, mobile phones, software and hard wares. There is a social connection between people of country and outside world too. Both men and women has started growing together with equal rights and opportunities. But given the opportunity we cannot go beyond our traditional beliefs. It is what our society is actually made up of. Playing Khuru by women to me is the senseless and shameful thing which I had never heard of such stories by elders. Women in early days did not do that not because they don't like and want to but because they respect the tradition and preserve it. But today people has changed with constitution clamming their fundamental rights and forgetting their fundamental duties.
I had been in fantasy where I see women performing mask dance, playing archery with men, entering "Goen khang" without hesitation and wearing ghos. Yes, its everybody's roles and responsibilities to care country's tradition and culture but there are ways for doing it. Men can't wear kira and go public saying its their interest and am protecting culture.Things should be done according to the social norms. The norms which the ancestor has scripted for the well-being. Khuru was there in country from early history. It was only played by men from early days though women were also present during those days. Why did women did not play Khuru in early days? but Why today?. Others sports like football, volleyball, Tenis are acceptable because such things grew slowly to Bhutan whereas khuru is age-old tradition played only by men.
Sorry to all who are for it. Its my right and responsibility to share what am suppose to share. My personal feelings for such things had changed my mood meter with dissatisfaction.
