International women's day 2016 is focused with the aim of Gender Equality. The world is trying its best to bring the status of women to that of men. In the past women's were dominated by men for various reason and considered low in every aspect. But, today with modernization and education the people even in remote or far-flung villages become well aware of gender equality. Women's are given same priority as men in every situation. To bring the concept of gender equality to the maximum level, various women organization have been instituted in the world. Relief society, Equality Now, International council for women,Women's worldwide web and etc. are some of the women's organization in world which focuses to empower women and bring gender equality.
Almost 49.5% of Bhutanese population consist of women. They play vital role in economic, social, political and other institutional activities. Bhutan not only being a small Buddhist country but also due to farsighted leaders have empowered women's participation in every decision making process. We have a women minister, Dzongdas, Drangpons, Surgeons, Engineers, Doctors, teachers etc. By these reason women in Bhutan is equally brought to the level of men.The government and women's associations are doing their best to bring gender equality to women through various campaigns, workshops, and giving top priority in women's participation.
However, there are still issues in some far-flung villages where women are discriminated and dominated by men. RENEW (Respect, Educate, Nurture, Empower Women) has already recorded 20 divorce cases this year. The reason highlighted by Bhutan's Media are extra marital affairs and domestic violence. Alcohol could be another reason of women's unhappiness as many people of remote villages go for it. Even though there are genetic differences between men and women, it is important as all individuals to respect every women giving equal opportunity as of men. Men and Women are different but equal.

Women's of Bhutan (DIPD, 2013) |
The most shameful and shocking situation in the country is teenage pregnancy. Students these days are well explored, educated and experienced than the past due to various technologies. However, teenage pregnancy and youth related problems are increasing. It is not only the responsibility of government, teachers and parents, it is the responsibility of all importantly oneself who has to be careful in every move of such issues. It seems like the people in this era marry just to get carbon copy of another where many young women become pregnant and child is more or less fatherless.
According to the workshop coordinated by Chithuen Phendey Association (CPA) on 5th march, students are focused to be given sex education in schools and home due to increasing rate of pregnancy. The women from different organization spoke on the issues of women and their direct source of support and consultants. "Representative from the CPA, Punam, said women have been the key factor
in holding families together and it is important for them to create
aware of such issues". Therefore it is in need of women in the family to be aware of such issues and help in creating awareness.
