Winter is the most dangerous and likely season for the forest fire, it is at this season the biological organisms are of great danger and threat. The season is favorable for forest fire as the fuels remain dried, moisture content remain less and the wind velocity increases. Foresters remain well alert and active in this season to react against forest fire if forest fire occurs. Forest fire, the uncontrolled fire on wooded land caused either by biotic or abiotic agent is the greatest challenge for the foresters and crew members.
College of Natural Resources located in the mid of forest is very much susceptible to forest fire. The area is mainly dominated by Pinus roxburghii which is the dangerous fuel source helping forest fire.
No college in Bhutan except CNR is located in such kind of topographical zone, the college known by name College of Natural Resources is really a college dominated by natural resources.
Exams are over by a week ago, students are made to stay for a week while other college students are busy with their happy vacation. The rational behind of the decision is the college is very much concerned and ready to fight against the disaster like forest fire. Students are made to prepare fire lines or a fire breaks. It is systematic plan which has been scripted on college's winter plan. Students has been preparing fire lines for many years and it had really helped to combat fire in difficult situation. The fire line has provided a pathway to the crew members to counter act against fire.
It has been more than three days we have been preparing fire lines and we are now ready to fight fire if it be the cause. Foresters worked tirelessly under the scorching sun and dusty environment. Though they make different comments yet all remains happy at the end of day looking at their contribution to the college.Moreover, it is the only time we get opportunity to practically apply our knowledge of forest protection in making ourselves more competent in our profession.
Above all as a individual the concern citizen of Bhutan, I feel I am the most happiest person because after choosing my path as trainee of CNR I have got many opportunity to show my tribute and commitment to my nation. I feel that though costing the best opportunity in this profession has never been a mistake in my life. I have really discover the truth of my 15 years of education.
